Got a Holiday Party Coming Up? Here Are Some Tips for Your Smile

Posted .

The holidays can sometimes be harmful to your smile, without you realizing it. This is why it’s important to do all you can to keep your teeth and smile in tip-top shape. To help you, our Mark L. DeWitt DDS team has some tips for you that can help you care for your oral health during your holiday parties. Those tips are:

-Eat healthy holiday snacks: Instead of reaching for the sugary and starchy snacks, try grabbing foods that are packed with fiber, like carrots, celery, and hard cheeses. If you want to get even crazier, you can chew on some garnish.

-Be smart with your beverage choice: To avoid tooth stains, it’s best to avoid drinking soda, black tea, coffee and wine—both red and white. If you have no choice but to drink these beverages, make sure to wash the liquid away with some water. The best drinks to consume are water and green tea. Water can keep you hydrated and wash away harmful and foul-smelling bacteria and green tea can suppress the growth of bacteria.

-Use quick party freshen-ups: If you need to quickly freshen your mouth, try rinsing with a mixture of water and a few drops of peppermint oil. You can also chew a piece of sugarless gum or eat a piece of sugarless candy. Doing these things will stimulate saliva flow and wash the smelly bacteria away.

If you use these tips, you’ll be on the right track toward having a strong and healthy smile during your holiday parties.
